Hello!
Welcome to #Blackgirlmedic my name is K and first and foremost, I'm here for you. I've been in EMS six years now. It’s no secret that in EMS, and public service as a whole, suffers from a lack in ethnic and gender diversity. The purpose of this blog is to share my experience as a black woman in EMS. Especially, how I am able to navigate this world. It is truly a world of its own.
EMS is different than any other job out there. We can come in in the morning, and see a baby being born, a new life emerging into the world. We can also come in in the morning and see someone take their last breath on this earth. We’re invited into the homes of strangers, and asked to care for their family. Truly, you just never know what you may see.
We are faced with a massive amount of human suffering and eventually that starts to take a toll. Not only do I wanna share my experience but, I also want to be to bring awareness to mental health and resources available to cope. You could be dealing with provider burnout, pre-shift anxiety, financial trouble, etc. It is my goal to have posted a resource for you. If not feel free to shoot me an email and I will do some research, and share what I am able to find. Once again thank you for visiting.
Love,
K.
